The Illinois Railway Museum and its collection of over 450 pieces of equipment is the largest railroad museum in the United States.
The Museum is located just east of the Village of Union, McHenry County, IL.
Part of the Museum inventory includes the Nebraska Zephyr, the last North Shore Line Electroliner and the last surviving EMD E5 Diesel Locomotive built by Electro-Motive Corporation of LaGrange, Illinois.
During the decades that I have been visiting this true Jewel of the State of Illinois, each trip has felt like the very first visit.
I believe this happens because IRM is one of only two railway museums in the country that operates electric, steam and diesel trains. It is the only museum that offers trolley bus rides. This means visitors can ride on many different types of trains which in turn makes each trip to the museum unique.
To give you an idea of the size of the Museum there is about 2 miles of track just inside the ten equipment storage barns.
This image was first created as a 24MP Photograph at The Illinois Railway Museum (IRM) during a beautiful day in September 2015.
This is just one image from over 140 Train images from my Illinois Railway Museum artwork which can be viewed in my Fine Art America Trains gallery.
This is also just one photograph of over 400 train images that you can also view in my Fine Art America Trains gallery.
From my eyes, through the view finder to the click of the shutter. I hope you enjoy these moments in time that have been captured.
This photograph has been Digitally Enhanced to help this image to be considered a unique moment in time.
