These Photographs of the Nina and Pinta were taken while they were in dock at the Peoria Lake which is a section of the Illinois River.
Both of these wooden ships have been built using the same specifications and techniques from Christopher Columbus The Age of Discovery (1400) time period. The Nina is considered a typical trading vessel from this time period. The Nina logged at least 25,000 miles under Columbus command.
The creation, travels and history of these two ships since they have been re-created is a fascinating story that starts with maritime historians and ends with the volunteer crew members that sail these remarkable wooden ships. Please find time to explore the in depth stories of these ocean vessels.
